Are you a Business Owner struggling to get Customers or Clients? Have you ever faced a situation where you know your product or service is much better than your competitors yet, for some reason they have more sales than you? Frustrating isn’t it.

Developing a brand is one of the fundamental parts of a business that is often neglected. Not many people know how to do one or develop one for their own business. Many starting businesses tend to neglect the importance of branding. But, how do we develop or create one?

Hey! My name is Julian Andrew, a Brand Strategist based in Manila, Philippines. Passionate in helping Businesses stand out from their competitors with Branding and Business Strategies. If you own a business and you are struggling in making your business a success then this blog might be for you.

In this blog, we will be focusing on creating branding. We will show you what are the necessary steps you need to do to develop and create your Branding for you, and/or for your business. So for the people who are lazy in reading. Here are the 7 Steps:

Steps:

  1. Research your Target Audience and your Competitors
  2. Pick your Niche / Focus and Personality
  3. Choose a Business Name
  4. Write Your Slogan or Tag line
  5. Create your Visual Identity
  6. Design your Logo
  7. Apply your Branding to your Business

Step 1: Research your Target Audience and Your Competitors

Before we even start developing and creating one. It will be easier for us to look at similar services, industries. Observing their branding is and how they applied it. After observing their branding let’s think about our own target audience. Who are we really targeting? We cannot say our target audience is everyone. A wide Market is equaled to failed marketing. We can do categorize people and separate them mainly within these 4 categories.

Categories:

1.Demographics

  • Separate them by gender and/or age group.

2.Location

  • Locally or within a specific area or maybe a certain country even

3. Benefits

  • Benefits your target audience would want

4.Lifestyle

  • Middle Class, Lower Class, or High Class
  • Always spending
  • Saving

These are some of the ways we can categorize our target audience or target customers.

Step 2: Pick your Niche / Focus and Personality

The second step, Pick your niche, focus, and personality. Now that you have your target audience, think about what your target audience has in common. After that, think about a specific niche that can best resonate with them. So for example, if your business is a watch business where you create watches and your target audience are athletes. Then our niche can be basketball athletes or maybe swimmers or Olympians.

After creating a niche, we can start creating a personality. Branding is a way for your business to resonate with your target audience. So how is your business’s personality? Are you the fun type like Samsung or are you a high premium class type like Apple? Are you like McDonald's where you are familiar, comforting, and catchy, or are you Shakeys a middle class, formal, and has a strong personality? How do you want to be seen?\

Step 3: Choose a Business Name

Choosing a business name might be for many people the most intimidating one. But in fact might be the easiest one. Developing a Business Name is simple if you know what you are after. A strong business name is unique and easy to remember.

Step 4: Choose your Tagline or Slogan

The fourth step, choose your tagline or slogan

The best Taglines are short and sweet. Keep it Simple! The shorter the tagline, the easier it is for your audience to remember.

Step 5: Choose your Tagline or Slogan

The fifth step, Create your Visual Identity

This part of your building a Brand. It is important for you to do it with a professional Brand strategist and not just any logo designer. Creating your visual identity is essential as it can either bring your business to another level or bring it down. In this step, you will be deciding what color, fonts, and designs that best represent your Brand or Business. Will it be bright red and yellow like McDonald's or will it be Black and Gold like the majority of the more sophisticated branding.

Step 6: Create your Visual Identity

The Sixth Step, Create your Logo.

In this step, just like before, we recommend hiring a Brand Strategist rather than just a logo designer. It will be better if your Brand Strategist will also be the person to create your Logo and Visual Identity. This will cut costs and headaches in a long run.
